Biography
Conchita Wurst is the stage persona of the Austrian singer Thomas Neuwirth, who was born in Gmunden and first sang on television in the casting show Starmania in 2007. Conchita, a character known for a beard, first appeared in 2011, and came second in Austria’s national final for the 2012 contest.
In 2014 Conchita won the contest in Copenhagen for Austria with “Rise Like a Phoenix”. The win brought invitations to perform at pride parades, at the European Parliament and at the United Nations office in Vienna.
