How the three selection formats differ

Eleven countries use three models: a fully internal pick (Malaysia), an internal artist with a public song vote (Laos, Vietnam and now Mongolia), and an open final where artists and songs compete together (the other seven). We break down what each one trades away in our analysis of the three selection models.

Every national final that has aired used the same split — 40% professional jury, 40% domestic public, 20% Rest of the World — including Bangladesh's, Vietnam's and Nepal's, which had been described beforehand as 50/50. You can vote in the remaining shows from anywhere; our voting guide explains how.
