VTE9 — Vientiane Capital Television, the capital's station — became Laos's official Eurovision Asia partner in 2026. Its regular output is largely news and magazine programming: Vientiane Today, Youth News, Cultural News, Economic News Desk, Sports Update, Open Business World. A live music entertainment format is a genuine departure from what the channel normally makes.
Thinla will sing "Bae"
Laos selected its artist internally: Thinla, formerly performing as Thinlamphone, announced on 13 September. Sieng Lao: The One didn't choose a singer — it chose which of three songs she takes to Bangkok, from "Star," "Bae" and "Water."
The show ran across two nights at 20:30 ICT — Thinla performed all three songs on 23 September, voting stayed open for a full 24 hours, and "Bae" was announced as the winner on 24 September. The split was 40% jury, 40% Lao public, 20% Rest of the World. Hosts were Tot Lina (English) and Lanny (Lao); the jury was Ola Blackeyes, Sack Cells and Baby Max.
"Bae" is sung in English and Lao, and Thinla co-wrote it with DonutDropIt, Johan Gustafsson, Rebbi James and Sam Intharaphithak. VTE9 announced the winning song only — no points, and no order for the other two. Full detail is in our Sieng Lao: The One result.
Who Thinla is
Thinla blends traditional Morlum with pop, R&B and dance. The contest's own biography dates her releases from 2021, with more than twenty since; other biographies trace her recording career back to 2015. She has performed at the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, toured the US and represented Laos at Busan's Round Festival — an established regional artist rather than a talent-show discovery.
