Beck — “Light”

Where would you put Mongolia? Rank all 11

The broadcaster — and a change of name

CNBC Mongolia is the broadcaster named in the contest's 1 October announcement of Mongolia's artist, and the one Eurovoix reports ran the national selection. That is a change: the official eleven-country list published on 11 September named MNC, and the contest's own upload of Beck's winning performance on 10 October credits the footage to MNC. Nobody has explained how the two relate; we follow the 1 October announcement and will update this page if organisers clarify it.

The eleventh country

Mongolia's participation was confirmed on 14 August, well after the original ten-country announcement — a number of reference pages still list only ten participating countries as a result. The full story is in our piece on Mongolia's confirmation.

Beck, and his song: "Light"

Mongolia selected its artist internally: Beck, announced on 1 October. He debuted as a singer in 2007 and has since worked as an actor, host, model and producer; Eurovoix also describes him as an economist and an event director, and notes that he presents on CNBC Mongolia itself. More in our piece on Beck's selection.

Mongolia's Chosen One on Saturday 10 October then picked his song. Beck performed four, and "Light" won, ahead of "Chamguigeer (Without You)", "One of a Kind" and "Winner". It is sung in Mongolian and written by Narangerel Purevdorj and Tseren Ganbaatar. The vote was split 40% jury, 40% Mongolian public and 20% Rest of the World, and no points were published. We had reported five candidate songs before the show, following the 1 October announcement; there were four.

The full result, the jury and the other songwriters are on our Mongolia's Chosen One results page.
