Beck Will Represent Mongolia at Eurovision Asia 2026 — and the Selection Has Changed Shape
Mongolia has internally selected singer and TV host Beck for Eurovision Asia 2026. What's known about him, why Mongolia's Chosen One is now a five-song vote, and the broadcaster name that changed.
Update, 14 October: Beck’s song is chosen. Mongolia’s Chosen One on 10 October picked “Light”, sung in Mongolian, from four songs — not the five we reported below, following the 1 October announcement. The full result is on our Mongolia’s Chosen One results page.
Mongolia has its artist, and it didn’t hold a competition to find him. Beck was announced on 1 October 2026 as Mongolia’s representative at the first Eurovision Song Contest Asia, selected internally by the country’s broadcaster.
That single announcement changed three things at once: who is going, what Mongolia’s national selection is for, and — less noticed — which broadcaster is named as running it.
Who is Beck?
The contest’s announcement describes Beck as an artist, performer and storyteller who debuted as a singer in 2007 and has spent nearly two decades in Mongolian entertainment, working as an actor, host, model and producer along the way.
Eurovision news site Eurovoix adds a second career. It describes him as Beck Munkhbayar, an economist, media host and event director as well as a singer, who studied economics in Mongolia and works as a presenter at CNBC Mongolia.
That last detail is the unusual one. CNBC Mongolia is the broadcaster now named as selecting him — so Mongolia has, in effect, chosen one of its own on-air presenters.
There is nothing improper in that; broadcasters pick familiar faces all the time, and nineteen years as a working singer is a real career. But it is a different profile from the other two internally selected artists in the contest. Laos chose Thinla and Vietnam chose Tóc Tiên, both of whom are known first and foremost as recording artists.
What Mongolia’s Chosen One is now
Until 1 October, Mongolia’s Chosen One had been presented as an open national final — a show that would choose both an artist and a song. No line-up was ever published.
It became a song selection. On Saturday 10 October, Beck performed four songs (we said five here before the show), and viewers in Mongolia and around the world voted, alongside a jury, for the one he takes to Bangkok: “Light”.
That is the same model Laos and Vietnam used, and Mongolia is the first country to move to it after announcing something else. Full details of what is and isn’t confirmed about the show are in our Mongolia’s Chosen One guide.
The broadcaster question
When Mongolia joined the contest on 14 August, its broadcaster was reported as MNC. The official list of eleven participating countries, published on 11 September, also names MNC.
The 1 October artist announcement names CNBC Mongolia as the broadcaster conducting the national selection, and Eurovoix reports that CNBC Mongolia selected Beck. Wikipedia’s contest article has been changed to match. At least one Eurovision outlet covering the same news still credits MNC.
We don’t know whether this is a change of participating broadcaster, two names for related operations, or simply a difference in how the same organisation is being described. Nobody has published an explanation. We have updated our own pages to follow the most recent official announcement, and we’ll correct them again if that turns out to be wrong.
What it does to Mongolia’s chances
Not much, in either direction.
Mongolia was already near the foot of our Eurovision Asia odds, mostly because it joined late and nothing about its entry was known. Naming an artist removed one unknown, and choosing “Light” removed the other. We moved Mongolia from 4.5% to 4% on 7 October, a small adjustment that mainly reflected other countries firming up around it, and held it there on 14 October.
The song will matter more than usual here. An artist with a long domestic career but little international profile needs the three minutes to do the work.
What 10 October settled
- The songs: four, not five. “Light” won, ahead of “Chamguigeer (Without You)”, “One of a Kind” and “Winner”
- The jury and the split: a four-member jury, and the 40/40/20 formula reported in August, unchanged
- The result: a top three, with no points
