Biography

Dana is an Irish singer, songwriter and politician. Still at school, Dana won the 1970 contest in Amsterdam with “All Kinds of Everything”, which was Ireland’s first win. The record sold more than a million copies around the world and started a career in music.

Politics came later, under the name Dana Rosemary Scallon: an unsuccessful run for the Irish presidency in 1997, a seat in the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004, and a second presidential campaign in 2011.

  • 1970 Dana

Ireland sang last. Its singer was Dana, a little-known schoolgirl from Derry, and the song was "All Kinds of Everything". She won with 32 votes. It was Ireland's first victory. There would be six more — seven in all, a total no country has beaten.
