What is Eurovision Asia?
It's the first-ever Asia-Pacific edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, organized by the EBU together with Voxovation. It debuts November 14, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand.
How does the format work?
Unlike the original Eurovision Song Contest, there are no semi-finals — every country performs in a single show. The result is decided by an even 50/50 split between professional juries and public voting. Entries have to run under three minutes, and each act can put no more than six performers on stage.
Why aren't Japan, China, India, or Australia competing?
Each has a different reason. Australia is structurally ineligible — broadcaster SBS already competes in the main Eurovision Song Contest, and it's also said it's sitting out this inaugural edition regardless. China and India have both signed up to Intervision, a rival contest, rather than sitting out by omission. Japan simply hasn't been linked to a bid, with no broadcaster there commenting publicly. Kazakhstan is the one country still in active talks to potentially join. Organizers have said they're aiming for 12–14 countries in Bangkok, so more additions are possible before November.
Why aren't Israel, Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia, or Azerbaijan competing, even though some of them sit partly in Asia?
Those are all EBU-member broadcasters that already compete in the main Eurovision Song Contest. Eurovision Asia was set up for Asia-Pacific broadcasters that don't otherwise take part in the original contest, so countries already competing there aren't eligible here — geography aside.
Who organizes Eurovision Asia?
The EBU licenses the Eurovision format to Voxovation, the company also behind the American Song Contest. Voxovation is led by CEO and co-founder Peter Settman, with Christer Björkman as Head of Music and Marcus Tang as Managing Director, Asia.
Does the Eurovision Asia 2026 winner do anything at the main Eurovision Song Contest?
Yes — the winner gets a guest performance slot at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria. It's not a competitive entry, but it's the first confirmed link between the two contests.
Is this an official EBU website?
No. This is an independent, fan-run project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the EBU or the Eurovision Song Contest.
