Ten of the eleven Eurovision Asia countries have either picked their artist or published a selection date. One has not.

Vietnam has been on the participant list since the contest was announced on 31 March. Nearly five months later, VTV3 has published no date, no format, no artists and no application window.

With the Grand Final eleven weeks away, that is the biggest open question of the selection season.

What is actually confirmed

The official national final schedule published in early August listed dates for eight countries and explicitly noted that Vietnam had yet to reveal exact dates. Nothing has changed since.

Vietnam was in the original nine-country group that appeared when eurovisionasia.com briefly leaked on 29 March, so this is not a country that joined late and is playing catch-up.

The 2025 oddity

There is one strange piece of history worth knowing.

In August 2025 — before the contest officially existed — Ho Chi Minh City broadcaster HTV allocated a one-hour slot on 31 August to a programme listed simply as “Eurovision Asia.” The listing was spotted from a TV guide screenshot and circulated alongside Bhutan’s Druk Dra episodes during the period when the EBU was publicly stating no Asian contest had been confirmed.

That slot never produced anything, and HTV is not the broadcaster now confirmed for Vietnam — VTV3 is. Whether HTV’s 2025 listing reflected an earlier arrangement or simple confusion has never been explained.

What are the plausible explanations?

We do not know, so here are the realistic possibilities rather than speculation dressed as reporting.

An internal selection. Malaysia went internal, revealing Aina Abdul during an existing awards show rather than staging a dedicated final. Vietnam could do the same — announce an artist inside an established VTV programme with no separate selection at all. This would explain the silence entirely.

A late, compressed final. Organisers have indicated all selections should conclude by mid-October to leave a four-week window for rehearsals and press. That leaves room for a late-September or early-October Vietnamese show still to be announced.

Domestic scheduling. VTV3 is Vietnam’s main entertainment channel with a crowded slate. Fitting a new international format into it may simply have taken longer.

Why it matters

Vietnam is one of the larger music markets in this contest and among the most commercially dynamic in Southeast Asia. V-pop has built real regional traction over the past decade.

An entry chosen late, with minimal promotion and no selection show to build an audience, arrives in Bangkok at a disadvantage — not because the song is worse, but because Bhutan’s entry will have had three months of exposure and Vietnam’s may have three weeks.

That is a real competitive factor for anyone modelling the odds.

What to watch

Any announcement should come through VTV or the official Eurovision Asia channels. If mid-October is a hard deadline for selections, an announcement is due within roughly six weeks.
