Biography
Grethe Ingmann was a Danish singer who started at 17, singing for a time with the pop quartet the Malihini Hawaiians and then with the trio of the guitarist Jørn Grauengaard. From 1956 Ingmann performed in a duo with the guitarist Jørgen Ingmann. Together the two won the 1963 contest for Denmark with the jazz waltz “Dansevise”: the first win for a duo, and the first for a Scandinavian country.
In 1965 Ingmann entered a German song contest with “Sommerwind”. It went out early, but an English version sung by Frank Sinatra became an international hit. The duo carried on until 1975. As a soloist, Ingmann entered several Danish selections for the contest without winning one.
