Biography
Loreen is a Swedish singer-songwriter who finished fourth in the television competition Idol in 2004, released a first single, “The Snake”, with the band Rob’n’Raz the following year, and worked for a time as a television presenter and producer. A first try at Melodifestivalen in 2011, “My Heart Is Refusing Me”, gave Loreen a top-ten hit in Sweden.
A year later “Euphoria” won the contest in Baku. In 2023 “Tattoo” won it again in Liverpool, making Loreen the second performer to win twice, after Johnny Logan.

- 2012 The host under scrutiny
One contestant went to see for herself. Sweden's Loreen met local human rights activists during contest week — the only performer who did — and told reporters afterwards that rights were violated in Azerbaijan every day and that people should not be silent about it.
- 2012 The result
Loreen won, overwhelmingly. "Euphoria" was first with the juries and first with the public, and finished on 372 points out of a possible 492. Russia was second, 113 behind. Serbia's Željko Joksimović was third.
- 2023 The result
The juries chose Sweden. Loreen, the winner of 2012, was back with "Tattoo", and the juries put her comfortably first. The public chose Finland: Käärijä's "Cha Cha Cha" won the televote, with Sweden second.
- 2023 The result
Not everyone in the hall took it well. During the jury voting, Finland's supporters chanted over several of the announcements of twelve points for Sweden. Loreen said afterwards that she did not mind, and liked their enthusiasm.
- 2023 What it meant
Loreen became the second performer to win the contest twice, after Johnny Logan. Sweden's seventh victory drew it level with Ireland at the top of the all-time list.
- 2023 What it meant
In Britain the songs did better than the British entry. In the week after the final four of them were in the top ten of the UK singles chart at once, which had never happened before, and "Tattoo" reached number two.
