How it worked
Thirty countries wanted one of 23 places. Norway, as host, had one; the other 29 were judged on tape, with every national jury listening to each song three times on 20 and 21 March. Twenty-two went through. Finland and Hungary tied for the last place, and Finland took it for having the higher single mark. Germany was among the seven that went out, the only time it has missed the contest. The juries’ votes were not meant to be made public, but have since come out.
Results and votes as published by the European Broadcasting Union and recorded on the contest’s Wikipedia article. Every row here has been checked to add up to its total. Spotted a mistake? Tell us and we’ll fix it.
