In our contest stories
Lines about Romania from our story of each contest. Follow a link for the rest of that night.
- 1994 Out with seven, in with seven
The newcomers were Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia.
- 1996 The contest nobody saw
Seven countries were out: Denmark, Hungary, Israel, Macedonia, Romania, Russia — and Germany.
- 1998 The public decides
In every country except Hungary, Romania and Turkey, the points were now decided by viewers on the telephone.
- 2005 The result
Romania, which had won the semi-final, was third in the final, its best ever.
- 2022 Six juries
In the second semi-final, six national juries — those of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania and San Marino — had shown irregular voting patterns.
- 2022 Six juries
Romania, whose own jury would have given its twelve points to Moldova, accused the EBU of changing the rules and threatened to pull out of the contest.
- 2026 What that did to the contest
Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova all returned, which kept the number from falling further.
- 2026 The result
Romania, in third, equalled its best result.
